It’s one for cold winter nights when snow falls and leaves have left their trees. In a sentence, this book I have, most likely, given The Bear and the Nightingale one of the few low grades you will find for it. I did not do this lightly nor did I do it without reason. Part of it is simply that the book was badly marketed, at least for this reader.

Our librarian had recently read the book in the local city book club, and decided to buy the series for the library. The Bear and the Nightingale is a fairy tale, which in and of itself is somewhat rare in a genre lately dominated by epic high fantasy, military fantasy, and gritty grimdark.
